How Much Should You Tip?

How Much Should You Tip?

Looking for guidance on how much you should tip? It seems in recent years tipping has become more and more prevalent. Check out this Dave Ramsey article How Much You Should Tip in Common Situations – Ramsey for some guidance.

This article covers everything from restaurant to grocery delivery services to restroom attendant!

Here are a couple of my take aways from this article:

  • Not every service employee is allowed to accept tips. Sometimes you can have the biggest impact by expressing gratefulness.  If possible, call them by name and provide heart felt appreciation for their service. Although money is always appreciated, kind words can have a stronger impact emotionally.
  • Should you choose to tip, consider expressing your appreciation in words as well.
  • Although we may be focused on economy and controlling expenses, tipping may not be the area to scrimp. Generosity feels good, and it makes others feel good. If we are in a good financial situation, take advantage of the opportunity to bless others.

And one thing I try to do, is not take poor service personally.  I don’t know what kind of day the other person has had.  I don’t know what they might be going through.  Although sometimes it’s not easy, kind words, and a generous tip may be the way to help turn the other persons day around.

If you aren’t sure what your personal financial situation is right now, I can help! Together we can create your budget, set some goals, and help you feel more confident with your finances.
