Top Scams of 2024
Did you know that you can report a scam to the Federal Trade Commission?
When you report a scam, you help the FTC bring enforcement cases and educate people about scams.
The losses due to fraud continue to increase. Reported losses for 2024 were at $12.5 billion, up $2.5 billion from 2023!
Here are some areas reported:
- Bank transfer or payment scams, including cryptocurrency
- Investment scams reported $5.7 billion in losses
- People reported losing money more often when contacted through social media
- Job scams and fake employment agency losses increased substantially last year
- Younger people lost money more often (20-29 year olds) but those over 70 lost far more money than any other age group
