Review Your Credit Report for Errors

Why is it important to review your credit report?

Reviewing your credit report may help identify potential identity theft, fraud, or simple reporting errors.

With the convenience of the consumer website www.annualcreditreport.com, you can review your full credit report from all three reporting agencies as often as every seven days.

If something is incorrect, you can dispute the item(s) online.

It is important to review all personal information carefully, as well as other reported information.  If something is incorrect, create an account and submit a dispute.

A few tips:

  • Verify full name, especially if you have a family member with a similar name
  • A possible sign of ID theft may be
    • An account you did not open
    • An address where you never lived
    • A delinquent or collection account
    • An inquiry for a loan you never submitted
  • If you see a red flag submit a dispute

And if you are a victim, there are resources.  www.identytheft.gov is a link through the Federal Trade Commission where you can report the theft and get a recovery plan.
